…one breath moment
I have never imagined myself taking underwater photos or even freediving here in Hong Kong as the water quality here is never ideal. Not until last year ( 2020 ), when the world was flipped upside down and when everyone was stuck in one place, I got the chance to have my first taste of Hong Kong's water, and I decided to bring my camera with me. What used to be impossible to me turned out becoming endless possibilities. By shooting fellow freedivers, marine lives, and underwater environment, I discovered the tranquility of Hong Kong underwater world. This was the best reminder of treasuring the presence and the smallest details in life. The most beautiful thing is most of the time just right next to us.
Kenze Leung is an award-winning freediving underwater photographer from Hong Kong. He stared his photography journey as a fashion and lifestyle photographer/videographer. Not until mid 2019, he learnt freediving in Taiwan and decided to bring his camera down to the water to pursuit his underwater photography dream. Shooting underwater in here in Hong Kong has never been easy due to the low visibility but with his experience in photography, countless practices, and self-teaching, Kenze has developed exceptional underwater photography skills. His underwater creations have been capturing a never been seen side of Hong Kong's mysterious underwater world, with a distinctive style.
Does growing up on Cheung Chau might have influenced that? Perhaps, in certain way, it did. My family are the local from Cheung Chau, and I used to stick with them when I was small. Living on the island, surround by the water. Everything is just about the ocean and I love the ocean. We swam, we did fishing and I learnt about different kind of sea creatures. I often heard about people dive down deep with their bare hand for catching seafood and I was amazed of how they managed to do that! Until the recent, I found my way.
