COVID-19 pandemic is one of those game-changers that abruptly separate us from our everyday routine. Relationship between people crumbled and life in modern society turned upside down. The Quarantine presents a world where civilization took a wrong turn and fell backward due to unknown reasons. Imagine living in a completely isolated dystopia where language, identity, & freedom are fading away through time. The narrative of the film depicted a lonely survivor stranded on an island desperately needing a friend. He eventually met a lifeless fish at the shore which accompanies him into a surrealistic journey and ultimately set him free. For people who experienced the 2019 Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement, they would feel the association with the ongoing political struggle for freedom and democracy in Hong Kong. The lifeless fish was a symbol for the departed protestors and painful memories that haunted us. The half-man half-fish mythical creature ‘Lo Ting’ which is supposed to be the ancestor of the Hong Kong people also appeared in the film. Suggesting to be free, one must shed away our old self and morph into a new form. The story investigates ‘transformation’ as an answer to the age-old philosophical question of how to be free.
全球新冠病毒忽然改變了所有人每一天的習慣,人與人的關係極速崩壞,現代社會發生翻天覆地的改變。「隔離者」展現出一個文明忽然倒退的世界,原因不明。幻想生活在一個完全隔離的反烏托邦空間,語言、身份、與自由都隨著時間慢慢消逝。 故事講述一個被困在荒島極度需要朋友的孤獨生存者 ,遇上一條失去生命的魚,一起展開奇幻旅程最後終於獲得自由。 對那些經歷過2019年「反送中運動」的香港人,現在仍然能感受到在香港進行中的民主自由政治鬥爭,沒有生命的魚代表著那些已經離開了的抗爭者,痛苦的記憶仍然困擾著我們。 片中那條半人半魚神話生物「盧亭」代表香港人的祖先,暗示如果要找到自由,必先要將舊時的自我轉化變成新的形態,故事探討「轉化」作為如何得到自由的千古哲學問題答案。

Kacey Wong's experimental art project investigates the relationship between men, their social and political environment, and living space. He uses diverse methodologies including sculpture, installation, photography, performance, and social interventions. Kacey's permanent outdoor sculptures dedicated to Yeung Ku-wan and in memory of the “Four Great Outlaws” are installed along Dr Sun Yat-sen Historical Trail. He was the recipient of Best Artist Award in 2010, Rising Artist Award and Outstanding Arts Education Award given by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2003. Hong Kong Public Museums and private collectors have collected his mobile home tricycle project “Wandering Home”, “Drift City” photo series and also “Sleepwalker” mobile bunkbed. His floating house “Paddling Home”, sailed once on Victoria Harbour, was the star feature in 2010’s Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism \ Architecture exhibition. Wong’s recent work combines art creation with social activism, bringing positive transformation and innovation to society.
